Dan has spent the last two decades participating in competitive running events ranging from 5K to 50 miles. Prior to becoming the Head Coach in 2019, Dan served as an assistant coach on the Thunderhawks.

Dan grew up playing baseball in Sonoma County, and was active in the sailing community, having been named to the U.S. Sailing Team in 1993. Dan served as an assistant coach at Richmond Yacht Club, instructing youth in competitive sailing in the 1990's. Dan earned his USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification in 2019 and is SafeSport Certified. 

Away from the track and trails, Dan is a managing consultant for a global tax firm, and a licensed customs broker. Dan's wife Carolina serves as an Assistant Head Coach on the team, and their two daughters, Gabriella and Gisselle have been part of the Thunderhawks organization since 2015.

Carolina is relatively new to competitive running, completing her first marathon in December 2015. However, she has since completed various long distance races, including several 50Ks, 50 milers, and 100Ks. In 2018, Carolina completed the Rio Del Lago 100 miler and has volunteered at the Tahoe 200 miler in 2018 and 2019. Carolina earned her USATF Level 1 coaching credential in February 2020.

Away from the trails, Carolina loves salsa dancing, dark chocolate, wine and spending time with her family and English Labrador, Bailey. 

Carolina is SafeSport Certified.

Richard founded the Thunderhawks in 2010, and retired from head coaching duties in 2019. Richard has decades of competitive running experience, beginning with his time at Vacaville High School in the late 1960's as an athlete, through running countless races as an adult ranging from 5Ks to ultra-marathons.

Richard continues to support the Thunderhawks by assisting periodically at practices, and being an important knowledgeable resource for our coaches and athletes. 

Richard has a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification and is SafeSport Certified.
